If the detector identify a strong signal a search of the area is required. Sometimes wires and metal can act as an antenna extension giving off phantom signals unrelated to the search. 

Regardless of the signal detector, physical searches are always necessary for a successful sweep. It is also recommended that even if a device is found, to continue the sweep in case another more cleverly hidden tracker is present. Remove the found unit from the vehicle and extend the antenna again, drive, and see if another signal is being picked up by the multi use RF detector.
